In the heart of the Emirates, where ambition meets vision, Alia Abdulsalam has emerged as a trailblazer a young Emirati woman rewriting the narrative of women in water sports.
\u201cI was always inspired by my father,\u201d she recalls. \u201cHis innovative spirit and constant pursuit of new initiatives motivated me to be different and carve my own path.\u201d His legacy became her compass, fueling her passion for challenges and discovery.
From a young age, Alia was immersed in her father\u2019s world, especially during his time as promoter of the F2 President Cup. The summer of 2023 in Norway marked a turning point when she tested the G30 Win Race Boat. That moment, with the encouragement of close family friend Frode Sundsdal, sparked a journey that would make her the first Emirati woman in this field.
Breaking Barriers, One Race at a Time
<\/strong>Competing as the only woman among 14 men was no small feat. Many doubted her, but in one race she overtook four male competitors and improved her timing dramatically. It was a milestone that symbolized not just progress, but defiance of expectations.
\u201cI was fortunate to have my father\u2019s experienced team by my side many of whom had supported him since the 1990s. Their trust and knowledge gave me the strength to overcome every challenge.\u201d
Her proudest achievements include her very first race breaking gender barriers in the region and a recent sixth-place finish where she shattered her own timing record. Each step proved she was not only growing as an athlete, but also as a symbol of national pride and responsibility.
The Power of Role Models and Leadership
Alia credits the unwavering support of the UAE leadership and the inspiration of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak:
